The Palacio de la Magdalena Hotel, a paradigm of palatial architecture, was built by Don Juan de Llano Ponte, Bishop of Oviedo, in the mid-18th century. A chapel dedicated to Mary Magdalene was later added, giving the estate its name. The hotel, as it stands today, opened in August 2007.
